Munich, 03 December 2012 – NEC Display Solutions Europe has unveiled the new UM Series of ultra-short throw LCD projectors, bringing enhanced interactivity, quality and flexibility to the next-generation classroom.

Based on the very successful NEC M Series, this new range of seven ultra-short throw projectors sets new benchmarks in terms of performance and cost of ownership. With a throw ratio 0.36:1 there is no shadow and glare when working on an interactive whiteboard. Up to 3.300 ANSI lumens brightness ensure bright and crisp images even with bright daylight on the projection screen. The very long lamp life of up to 8000h significantly reduces cost of ownership and makes lamp replacements in many cases obsolete. Customers can also choose integrated interactivity based on Luidia’s eBeam technology. The receiver and pen including eBeam software for corporate and education can also be bought separately to retrofit non interactive installations simply by attaching and connecting it to the projector.

Boasting XGA (1024x768) and WXGA (1280×800) resolutions available, high image quality is assured through an improved 3,000:1 contrast ratio and higher brightness of 3,300 ANSI lumens. All models ship with an improved wall-mount that provides easy size, horizontal, vertical, roll, pitch and yaw adjustment, ensuring not only a perfect picture but also significantly reducing set-up time and cost for the installer.

Added connectivity options are also included in the new UM Series range with two HDMI ports alongside the more common VGA connectors, as well as USB and wired and wireless network streaming options.

Along with the introduction of the UM Series NEC also introduces a free iOS App called NEC Wireless Image Utility. This app enables you to do wireless presentations from your iPhone or iPad. A live camera transmission allows you to transform you mobile device into a document camera. With the integrated viewer function users can easily access websites, add annotations or highlight certain areas with an integrated pointer function and run automated slideshows from your camera roll.

The added support for DisplayNote Presenter is a tremendous boon for education professionals, turning the projector into a tablet-based whiteboard solution and enabling a new generation of interactive learning. Customers buying an UM Series projector (amongst others) will get a DisplayNote Presenter licence for free. Alternatively educators can opt for the eBeam module and education suite to add a host of teaching tools and functionality to the new range.

In keeping with NEC's Green Vision , the new UM Series projectors all feature several compelling eco-friendly benefits. This includes doubling the lamp life of up to 8,000 hours. Furthermore, one-touch Eco buttons on the remote and projector enable several eco-modes that reduce power consumption and extend the life time of the projector. Combined with current features such as a carbon meter, auto power off and remote and network timer functions, they all make the new UM Series environmental friendly, and keep energy bills low.

“The modern classroom continues to evolve, with technology enabling greater levels of interactivity and collaboration, between students and teachers, providing the basis for boosting learning efficiency,” said Ulf Greiner, Product Line Manager Business Projectors at NEC Display Solutions Europe.

“The new UM Series projectors offer teachers, professors and trainers intelligent, simple and flexible visual solutions for an optimum presentation of the learning content even for a large number of participants – and the ultra-short throw design means the path of the light from the lens to the image is guided so as not to cross the traditional space used by the teacher or presenter during presentations.”
