The quick route to a three-dimensional world

NEC Display Solutions enhances 3D-enabled projectors with optional 3D starter kit

Munich, 23 June 2010 – NEC Display Solutions is unveiling a 3D starter kit as an add-on to its new 3D-enabled NP115, NP210 and NP216 projectors, providing a rapid route to the world of 3D. The starter kit consists of active 3D glasses combined with award-winning 3D software from renowned content providers in the fields of education, simulation, engineering and design as well as 3D pictures and a 3D movie. The full version of the well-known stereoscopic player from 3dtv.at is also included for playing films and pictures with 3D effects.

Back in May 2010, NEC Display Solutions showcased a range of new projectors that use DLP ® Link technology in combination with active LCD shutter glasses to deliver 3D projections. No special screens or filters are needed for playback, nor any emitter for synchronisation of the glasses, which makes this solution particularly economical. To build the 3D starter kit, which will be available from July, the manufacturer collaborated with a number of renowned content providers, enabling users to quickly and easily enjoy their first and varied 3D experiences.

The highlight, alongside the active 3D glasses, is the full version of the stereoscopic player from 3dtv.at, which means an enormous price saving for the user compared with the single purchase. This universal software for the stereoscopic playback of pictures and videos supports a range of formats such as AVI, MPEG, WMV ASF or MOV. 3dtv.at has developed a separate version of this software especially for NEC Display Solutions.

Other components of the NEC 3D starter kit include the demo versions of “Eureka”, a software program from Designmate for the three-dimensional representation of scientific concepts for educational purposes, as well as “Discover Sound” and “Discover Maths”, 3D interactive applications from Amazing Interactives that explore the human senses and help to facilitate the teaching of Geometry. The “EON 7.0 viewer” from EON Reality along with sample content provides vivid interactive examples from fields such as simulation, engineering, design, architecture, biology and science, suitable for education as well as for professional applications. The NEC 3D starter kit is completed with numerous sample pictures and a video with impressive macro and slow motion shots.
