Munich, 15 January 2013 NEC Display Solutions Europe has announced the launch of the NEC MD211C2. It is the first LED backlit colour model of NEC's MD Series of medical grade displays, aimed at aiding the transition of primary diagnostic systems to colour displays.

The medical market is shifting from grayscale to colour displays for diagnostics as well as from classical CCFL to less power consuming and mercury-free LED backlights. NEC is supporting this transition with the launch of the MD211C2, a 2MP flat panel display for primary diagnosis of PACS colour and grayscale digital images. Applications include diagnostics in radiography as well as CT, MRI, PET and other medical imaging modalities.

The MD211C2 boasts a 21.3-inch screen, 1200 x 1600 pixels display featuring the best possible UA-SFT (IPS) technology for the most stable viewing performance. The combination of LED backlighting, human sensor technology and significantly smaller in-built calibration front sensor and ambient light sensor ensure the top quality performance at lower energy levels in a smart functional design.

It also features NEC's unique 'Quick Screen QA' feature, which allows for easy and fast PC-independent quality assurance testing. This also allows for re-calibration of the integrated front sensor and ambient light sensor according to the international IEC 62563-1 standard and the new DIN 6868-157 standard.

With a DisplayPort connector and an ergonomic stand that allows for 150mm height-adjust, tilt, pivot and swivel, the display is easy to install and use, whilst offering best image performance.

In keeping with its medical credentials, the MD211C2 display is seamlessly integrated into the GammaCompMD QA software suite. This software performs routine display configuration and ensures consistent image quality conforming to all necessary quality assurance standards, either locally or over the network through the optional GammaCompMD QA Server.

"As diagnostic imaging maintains its move towards colour, NEC is retaining its commitment to offering the most up-to-date technologies for the most demanding digital medical imaging requirements,” said Christopher Parker, Product Line Manager Professional Displays at NEC Display Solutions Europe.

“Advancements in this area require a perfect balance of outstanding innovation and dependable reliability, which is why we have combined the latest display technology, such as LED backlighting and DisplayPort, with the most rigorous compliance techniques.”

The NEC model MD211C2 is a medical device Class I, following the requirements of the EU directive 93/42/EEC. To guarantee the display performance as specified, a MD211C2 display must only be used in conjunction with NEC approved display controller boards. NEC offers a choice of Matrox, AMD and Nvidia models for best imaging performance and compatibility with GammaCompMD QA software.
