Munich/Amsterdam, 12 February 2020 – NEC Display Solutions Europe reinforces their Open Modular intelligence (OMi) concept, which leverages diverse computing hardware technologies with scalable performance-levels by releasing the NEC Open Modular Platform, crafted from the strategic partnership with signageOS. The platform’s open, modular approach is enabled by signageOS technology, and provides single code-based API access to connect to NEC hardware. This uniformed incorporation of signageOS' optimised technologies to power the NEC Open Modular Platform goes beyond traditional operating systems.
The NEC Open Modular Platform enables the strengthening of existing partnerships and the creation of new business opportunities for partners. It does this by providing additional flexibility to easily integrate with any supported hardware or software from the NEC digital signage ecosystem.
“We are very excited to announce this strategic partnership with signageOS and introduce the NEC Open Modular Platform”, said Andreas Biss, Manager Business Development Solutions at NEC Display Solutions Europe. “For years NEC has been the global leader in Visual solutions. Currently, with so many different operating systems and codebases offered, unique applications must be developed specifically to meet each different project requirement. This can be a big hurdle for CMS companies, as they constantly need to invest resources to stay on top.”
By teaming up with signageOS, NEC takes the Open Modular approach to the next level and offers a joint solution tailored specifically for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module, yet also provides upgrade paths to OPS and SDM for more demanding applications.
Stan Richter, CEO of signageOS commented: “We are proud to kick off this partnership that will move NEC's open modular hardware towards greater, seamless availability for partners through signageOS unification technology. signageOS' focus on creating industry standard APIs for any digital signage hardware has provided us with the knowledge and experience to help unify a fragmented industry. NEC's adoption of our platform exemplifies their visionary stance on the evolution of digital signage and demonstrates its commitment to industry standardisation.”
No matter what vertical market or system integration solution, this digital signage ecosystem advances standardisation, and provides instant access to new tools and services to ensure success for every NEC partner. NEC encourages all its partners, software companies or system integrators to reach out to NEC or signageOS to learn more about the NEC Open Modular Platform, and how it can support them.
The NEC Open Modular Platform will be showcased for the first time at the NEC Display Solutions booth 5-R20 at the ISE trade fair in Amsterdam. It will be available from Summer 2020.
