NEC SpectraView Reference 271 wins TIPA Award

Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) rates NEC colour critical display as outstanding product

Munich, 11 May 2011 – The NEC SpectraView Reference 271 LCD display has won the renowned TIPA Award 2011. The iconic display has been voted the ‘Best Expert Photo Monitor’ by members of the Technical Image Press Association ( TIPA ).

The decision to award one of NEC’s top-of-line reference monitors was made by editors of the leading photo and imaging magazines that are members of TIPA, at a meeting held in Istanbul, Turkey on the 9 th of April 2011. Every year, TIPA editors vote for the best photo and imaging products introduced to the market during the previous 12 months. TIPA editors take into account factors such as innovation, the use of leading-edge technology, design and ergonomics, ease-of-use, as well as price/performance ratio.

The NEC SpectraView Reference 271 is a hardware-calibratable, wide-gamut display that features a 10-bit P-IPS panel with 97 per cent usable AdobeRGB colour space. In addition, the impressive 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution makes it perfect for stringent pre-press and soft-proofing applications, as well as demanding photographic image reproduction and video editing. The display comes with a six-month pixel failure warranty starting from the date of purchase.

The high-end LCD panel possesses all the well established professional features NEC has to offer, including a 3D lookup table for separate colour space emulations, a 14-bit lookup table to achieve an accurate colour calibration via gamma correction and the NEC L*ab ‘Profiler’ software to create the 16-bit ICC profile as part of the colour workflow.

The official TIPA jury citation for the Best Expert Photo Monitor 2011 award stated:

“Professional monitors are key to end result image quality, and TIPA members were very impressed with the NEC SpectraView Reference 271, a 27-inch wide-format LCD. Calibration functionality is enhanced by a state of the art P-IPS Panel with 10-bit performance that can reproduce 1.07 billion colours and 97 per cent usable Adobe RGB colour space.”

Its large size and high-resolution desktop image, and light protection hood, make the NEC SpectraView Reference 271 of particular interest to professional photographers, media designers and graphic designers.

“When it comes to colour critical applications there is no room for compromise. Performance is paramount, which was the basis for all of NEC’s design decisions when developing the NEC SpectraView Reference 271 monitor. The TIPA Award honours our efforts to put all our technical expertise, innovation and design skills into one product to provide users with a high quality and reliable solution for their colour needs,” said Christopher Parker, Product Line Manager for Professional Displays at NEC Display Solutions Europe.
