About NEC Display Wall Calibrator

NEC Display Wall Calibrator system will automatically adjust multiple displays used in a video wall so that the color characteristics closely match, thereby creating the visual illusion of a single large display.

USB drivers for the X-Rite i1 color sensors, and DataColor Spyder3, Spyder4, and Spyder5 are included and automatically installed with NEC Display Wall Calibrator. Drivers for other color sensors are copied to the NEC Display Wall Calibrator application directory but are not automatically installed.

Release Notes

Known issues

"Error: The color measured appears to be invalid." during calibration

This error may be caused by the current input signal to the display being encoded in YUV format. Please either temporarily change the input signal to RGB format, or temporarily change the video input to the MEDIA PLAYER while the calibration is being performed and try repeating the calibration.

Unable to detect Datacolor Spyder3, Spyder4, and Spyder5 sensors:

The Windows drivers for the Spyder3, Spyder 4, and Spyder5 sensors are copied by the installer application, and are automatically installed (registered) with Windows to be loaded when the device is connected. If the driver is not automatically loaded, then with the sensor connected to the computer, from the Windows Device Manager select the device and update the drivers to the ones installed in the following locations:

On 32 bit Windows:

\Program Files\NEC Display Solutions\NEC Display Wall Calibrator\Drivers

On 64 bit Windows:

\Program Files (x86)\NEC Display Solutions\NEC Display Wall Calibrator\Drivers

Required Minimum Firmware version:

The following display models require a minimum firmware version in order to work correctly with NEC Display Wall Calibrator. The firmware version can be checked in the Display Settings dialog on the Status tab, or by using the Tools menu - "Verify Monitor Firmware..." function. Please contact NEC if your display needs to be updated to newer firmware.

Posterized image when using LUT:

In certain cases the screen image may appear posterized temporarily while the LUTs are being updated, when using firmware up to, and including, version 1.017 on the following display models: P402, P462, V422, V462, V551, V651, X461S, X551S, X551UN. If the posterizing continues after the LUTs have finished being updated, reset the monitor power.

Analog Auto Bias/Gain Setup function on the Video tab in Display Settings:

This function does not work with firmware prior to, and including, version 1.017 on the following display models: P402, P462, P552, V422, V462, V551, V651, X461S, X551S, X551UN. If it is necessary to use this function, it must be accessed from the Advanced OSD menu. Note that adjusting via the OSD is faster than via software.

Schedule Function with LCDxx20 or Mx0 series displays:

When using the Schedule function from the Display Settings dialog, it is not possible to set the Input setting to "Last Input" using the software. Either set the Input setting to a specific input, or use the IR Remote to set the setting on the OSD.

Schedule Function with X461UN and X461HB displays with firmware earlier than version 1.2.00:

When using the Schedule function from the Display Settings dialog, it is not possible to set the Picture Mode setting to "Last Input" using the software. Either set the Picture Mode setting to a specific mode, or use the IR Remote to set the setting on the OSD. The firmware version can be checked in the Display Settings dialog on the Status tab.

USB to RS232 adapters and "Error: No reply from the display" error:

Certain models of USB to RS232 adapters may not function correctly with NEC Display Wall Calibrator because of their limited buffer size that causes long messages sent to the display to not be transmitted correctly. Starting with version 1.2.00, the software will automatically check if the adapter functions correctly, and will display an error message if not.

If you encounter this error, please check with the hardware vendor to see if newer device drivers are available. If this does not solve the issue, try using a different model of USB to RS232 adapter.

Adapters from Keyspan and IOGear have been tested and work correctly. Adapters such as the Belkin model F5U409 are known to have this problem and should not be used.

X-Rite i1Pro or i1Monitor color sensor: If using the X-Rite i1Pro or i1Monitor -

X-Rite i1Display Pro:

This version includes support for the X-Rite i1Display Pro color sensor.
The X-Rite ColorMunki Display device introduced in mid-2011 is not supported.
The NEC SpectraSensor Pro is based on the X-Rite i1Display Pro sensor and is supported. Note that this sensor may not be supported by non-NEC software.

X-Rite ColorMunki color sensor:

The "ColorMunki Create" version of ColorMunki is not supported by NEC Display Wall Calibrator. The "ColorMunki Design" and "Colormunki Photo" versions are supported.

The X-Rite ColorMunki Display device introduced in mid-2011 is not supported.

If the X-Rite ColorMunki software is installed, it will prevent NEC Display Wall Calibrator from accessing the device even if the main ColorMunki application is not currently running.

If you are using the ColorMunki software prior to version 1.1.0:

NEC Display Wall Calibrator will detect if the ColorMunki software is running and give the option of closing it automatically.
To use the ColorMunki software again after NEC Display Wall Calibrator has closed it, you must run the colormunki.exe application from the Startup menu in Windows.

If you are using the ColorMunki software version 1.1.0 or newer:

You must turn off the ColorMunki Service in the Windows Control Panel > "X-Rite Device Services" to allow NEC Display Wall Calibrator to access the device.
To use the ColorMunki software again you must turn the ColorMunki Service back on.

Konica Minolta CA-210 and CA-310 color sensors:

The maximum luminance that can be measured by these color sensors is 1000 cd/mē. They should not be used with HB (High Brightness) display models.
