Sharp NEC Display Solutions client installation – Higher Education
Nottingham Trent University
Investing in the future of education with LED
The Belgrave Postgraduate Centre is the new home of Nottingham Trent University’s (NTU) postgraduate, doctoral and executive education community at Nottingham Business School. The integration of LED technology from Sharp/NEC demonstrates its commitment to sustainable investment into the future of education.
With 4,700 square metres of state-of-the-art technology and modern teaching spaces, this multi-million-pound refurbishment will inspire generations of business leaders. The space has been designed with an emphasis on collaboration and social interaction, with access to study spaces, bookable meeting rooms, flexible classrooms and a tiered lecture theatre alongside employability services, student support, research centres and a vibrant café.
The Challenge
The Belgrave Postgraduate Centre refurbishment was essential to modernise the learning environment in line with the expectations and experiences of its postgraduate students. Typically engaging in education alongside employment, or imminently moving into the workplace, it was important that the Postgraduate Centre offered the same level of state-ofthe- art technology as would be provided by FTSE 100 leaders in industry. Demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency was also important to NTU, requiring its installation partners and suppliers to evidence their own responsible practices.
The Solution
The centrepiece to the transformation of Nottingham Trent University‘s Postgraduate Centre learning spaces is a large surface LED wall by Sharp/NEC located in the main lounge area where students and visitors gather for keynote presentations.
The integration of cutting-edge LED technology demonstrates NTU’s commitment to investing in the future. The vast 162-inch NEC LED-E018i-162, 1.8mm pixel pitch digital surface delivers the WOW factor supporting high-resolution content delivery which is vital for engaging students across various disciplines.
Delivering long lasting performance, Sharp/NEC’s reputation for quality is evident in the robust metal framework which ensures perfect alignment of LED modules. The resulting configuration is perceived as a single vast surface.
“Sharp/NEC’s high quality, energy efficient LED technology promises a 10-year lifecycle which represents a sustainable choice and an appealing total cost of ownership over its long life,” says Peter Midgley, Managing Director at Roche AV who had no hesitation in recommending Sharp/NEC for this project.
The metal construction naturally dissipates heat protecting the longevity of electronic components whilst its fire retardancy ensures the safety of staff and students. Metal is also 100% recyclable, again and again, feeding the circular economy.
“The Sharp/NEC LED solutions provide us with the high-quality equipment and service essential for our Higher Education needs,” explains Graeme Bagley, Teaching Space Designer and Product Owner at NTU.
“Sharp/NEC‘s reputation for sustainable equipment and low cost of ownership over a long lifecycle gave us the confidence to select them for our showcase piece.”
The Result
The project has positioned NTU as a leader in educational technology integration, attracting prospective students and faculty who value modern, forward-thinking learning environments. This enhanced reputation contributes to NTU’s competitive edge in attracting top talent and maintaining high standards of academic excellence.
“Working with Roche AV and Sharp/NEC was seamless; they delivered the solution professionally, making procurement and installation of the bundled solution incredibly easy,” Graeme confirms. “When not in use, the display showcases essential information, but it also allows students to freely use the system, integrating advanced digital tools into their daily lives, enhancing their presentation skills and technological proficiency, readying them for future careers.”
The project’s emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency through LED technology aligns with NTU’s commitment to environmental responsibility. The use of eco-friendly AV solutions not only reduces operational costs but also underscores NTU’s dedication to promoting sustainable practices within its educational infrastructure.
