NEC updates primary diagnostic display range with MD301C4 30” wide-format 4MP colour monitor

Munich, 29 March 2011 - NEC Display Solutions has updated its MD Colour series with the launch of the MD301C4, a 30-inch, 4.0-megapixel LCD monitor, that is fully certified for primary diagnostic usage.

Building on the success of the NEC MD304MC, the new MD301C4 is suitable for displaying images, such as CT (computerised tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans and radiography images, for primary diagnostic viewing by trained physicians.

The generous 29.8-inch wide-screen display with 2560 x 1600 resolution has a maximum brightness of 350cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. This, combined with a landscape or portrait orientation and a horizontal and vertical viewing angle of 178 degrees, as well as split-screen (picture-by-picture) support, makes the MD301C4 a perfect replacement for a more traditional dual 2MP display setup. Not only is this more convenient and easier to maintain, but also avoids problems of calibration differences that can arise as two separate monitors age.

The MD301C4 is in accordance with the EU guideline 93/42/EEC for medical devices and satisfies the visual quality requirements according to AAPM TG18 Primary Class and DIN V 6868-57 Category B. Furthermore, the wide gamut P-IPS (in-plane switching) boasts a 10-bit display, which supports either 1,024 gray levels or 1.07 billion colours. The precise DICOM calibration, made possible by calibration features like the 14-bit look-up table, ensures high-quality image reproduction and excellent image stability.

NEC’s Backlight Ageing Correction technology, integrated within the NEC MD301C4, automatically compensates for possible ageing-related backlight brightness and colour deterioration, so that stable image quality is maintained. Signal input can be taken from any of four ports - two DisplayPort and two DVI-D signal inputs. The display also has a built-in USB hub (2x Upstream, 3x Downstream) for easy connectivity of keyboard and mouse, which may even be used to control two different computer sources. Like earlier NEC MD models, the NEC MD301C4 features a stand-alone calibration capability for White Luminance and DICOM calibration without the use of software.

“The majority of images viewed by medical specialists nowadays are displayed using LCD colour monitors rather than using analogue film. This allows doctors to quickly receive all the important data and the images can also be efficiently forwarded to the relevant internal medicine departments for their expert viewing or even to off-site locations, which rely on teleradiology systems,” said Christopher Parker, Product Line Manager Professional Displays at NEC Display Solutions Europe. “The NEC MD301C4 ensures experts are able to view consistent and reliable digital image information. For example, since X-ray and sectional pictures are typically presented in greyscale, the IPS technology in the NEC MD301C4 is especially suited to ensuring high-quality image reproduction.”

The NEC MD301C4 was first showcased at ECR 2011 in Vienna and is now available from NEC Display Solutions or from certified medical equipment suppliers and comes bundled with NEC’s GammaCompMD QA software. NEC Display Solutions provides a standard three-year guarantee for its MD range, which can be optionally extended up to five years.
