Largest cinema group in Europe looks to NEC again to partner in latest 3D rollout.

NEC Display Solutions enjoys further success in the cinema market winning another contract with ODEON

LONDON, 24 March 2010 : Following the successful deployment of 140 NEC digital projectors to ODEON cinemas throughout Europe in 2009, NEC Display Solutions has announced a further contract with ODEON as Europe’s largest cinema group looks to expand it’s 3D movie domain.  The ODEON Group currently has 200 cinemas and over 1,800 screens across the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy and Portugal. It is the largest cinema chain in the world outside of North America.

With the incredible success of recent movies such as Avatar in 3D - the second biggest grossing movie globally, the digital cinema market is expanding rapidly to meet an increasing level of demand for 3D content. Superior box office returns from early digital 3D releases point towards a strong business case for a rapid roll-out of 3D screens.

“We are already reaping a strong return on our earlier investment in 3D technology,” commented Drew Kaza, executive vice president of digital development at ODEON . “NEC has more than lived up to our expectations of quality and reliability and our current roll-out plans will enable us to further benefit from the greater revenues and attendance ratios we have already experienced with 3D as 2010 looks to see more 3D productions than ever”

ODEON have selected the new NC2000S and NC3200S digital projectors for the 2010 roll-out ensuring outstanding images with incredible brightness for even larger venues. Utilising DLP Cinema Technology from Texas Instruments these superior performance projectors deliver exceptional image and colour quality with contrast ratios of 2200:1 or higher by using DMD chips that support a resolution of 2048 x 1080.

“We set a high value on providing investment protection for our customers”, emphasizes Simon Jackson, vice president Northern Europe for NEC Display Solutions. “With our latest digital products we continue to provide state-of-the-art technology enabling moviegoers to enjoy the highest quality 3D movie experience yet.”
